Get to know Emma Foy, who joined our Aberdeen store in December 2019 as our Assistant Store Manager!
What is the role of an Assistant Manager at McGowans?
I assist with the general running of the store and step up when our Store Manager is absent. I support the team in developing their selling and customer skills as well as help customers find their perfect items.
How long have you been with McGowans?
I joined McGowans at the start of December 2019.
How does your day begin?
I begin by checking the store standards and ensuring everything in store and in the windows looks perfect for the day.
What does a typical day at McGowans look like?
A typical day includes helping customers with purchases and enquiries as well as dealing with repairs, new stock and potential buys.
What is your favourite part of working at McGowans?
My favourite part of the job is being a part of a special time for customers, whether it’s their wedding, anniversary or just a treat for themselves.
Who or what keeps you motivated?
My team here and the support from everyone in Glasgow keeps me motivated.
What is the most challenging aspect of your role?
The most challenging part is finding the perfect piece to meet the customer’s needs. However, this is also my favourite part of the job!
What do you enjoy in your spare time?
I enjoy being in local musical productions. I also enjoy reading and cooking.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to work in the jewellery industry?
I’d say go look at your local jewellery stores and find out what you like and what you would want to learn. I gained a lot of experience by buying my own jewellery over the years. I love working with jewellery and I would encourage anyone interested to get into the industry!]
